    Covenantal Catechism Book 6

Covenantal Catechism helps parents raise children who need more Scriptural understanding of the Gospels so they can make a clear and complete biblical confession of faith and live it out. Book 6 is for beginners or ages 11-12 and surveys the epistles and Revelation. It contains lessons, reviews, memory work and songs, and Bible reading assignments. The Teacher's Handbook contains instructions for effective teaching of Book 6: The Epistles and Revelation and an answer key.

    Catechism Means Question and Answer

    This package includes:

After Jesus had led and taught the disciples three years, He posed this question to them, "Who do you say that I am?" Peter answered, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

Embedded in that short exchange is the essence of catechism and the essence of the covenant. Covenant is God revealing Himself and his people responding. This catechism curriculum then is built on that premise.

Since God’s revelation of Himself is one of the words He expects His people to respond first of all with words. It is upon that "God speaking, people answering" dynamic that this covenantal catechism program is based.

    Teaching What God Says—The Bible

The first part of a covenantal catechism program then will consist of teaching our children what God has said and is saying to them in His Word, the Bible. The series of books you see on this site is dedicated to assisting in filling that purpose—to reveal through the Bible the Word and works of our God. We may call this first part Scripture Catechism.

Teaching What the Church Answers—The Confessions

The second part of a covenantal catechism program will teach our children how they should answer our God; what confession of faith they should make. This normally takes form by teaching them the confessions of the church to which they belong. Although Line of Promise Press does not yet publish confessional catechetical material, much is available. You will find a page listing material available on this site. We call this second part Confessional Catechism.

What Is Our Doctrinal Position? Reformed and Covenantal

These books are Scripture Catechism, and express a standpoint that is both Reformed and covenantal.

    The teaching is Reformed.

The books teach from a perspective reflecting the great Reformation confessions — the Heidelberg Catechism, the Belgic Confession, the Canons of Dort, and the Westminster Confession and Catechisms. They belong to the heritage commonly known as “Reformed” to distinguish it from the Lutheran and Anabaptist streams of the Reformation.

Our Scripture catechism books clearly follow the great Reformation themes of Scripture Alone, By Faith Alone, Through Grace Alone, By Christ Alone, and To God Alone Be the Glory.

    The teaching is clearly covenantal.

    • The books and lessons teach that the Bible is the one revelation of the Triune God. God’s revelation is one, His church is one—Old Testament and New Testament—His salvation is one, always and only through Jesus Christ, from Adam onward.
    • They teach that God, from Adam to the present, has included children in the unbelief, and also in the belief, of their parents. These books, therefore, teach that infants born to believers are, along with their parents, members of the Church of Jesus Christ.
    • They teach that as God establishes His covenant with children, He speaks to them through His Word, also by means of catechism instruction, and expects and requires an answer of faith from these children.
    • They teach that the children are a covenantal unity of prophet, priest, and king. This means that the children, as an image of God, have been equipped with intellect, emotion, and will. This catechetical instruction will seek to inform their intellect, their mind; to call for a response of faith and love from their heart, and finally to challenge them to choose, to act, to live, in obedience to God.

John Owen commends catechism teaching by saying, "More knowledge is ordinarily diffused, especially among the young and ignorant, by one hour’s catechetical exercise, than by many hours continual discourse." You will find that all the great Reformers and church leaders of the 16th and 17th centuries—Calvin, Luther, Knox—called catechetical instruction essential.

"What I like most is that it focuses on number sense, mental math and learning that there is often more than one way to approach a math problem. The table of contents and layout makes it very easy to skip around or find what topics that you want to teach. There are plenty of problems and while we only do about 1/3 of them until mastery is demonstrated, you could easily spiral back for review or do more problems when it was a difficult concept.." Jennifer. (Note: the links below are to the individually purchasable reading guides, not the books.)

With Our Mother Tongue, the complete concise grammar guide, everyone can learn to love English.

            This package includes:

"The world seems to be quite full of grammar books, but it is not easy to find a text today that covers all the bases, still emphasizes diagramming, is not laden with politically correct jargon, and embraces a Christian world view.

I am certainly not claiming to have achieved all these things in this little book, but I have aimed for it.

I wanted to produce a grammar book that could be used to teach junior-high students as well as high-school or college students and adults, a book that covered many of the aspects of English grammar succinctly; I also wanted a book that could assume the biblical view of language.

At the same time I wanted to whet the appetite of the student to want to know more about the history of our language." ~ Nancy Wilson

In this English grammar guide, Nancy Wilson surveys the major concepts in English grammar for beginners at the late elementary and junior high level (recommended grades 6-9, ages 10-14).

Wilson avoids common, contrived sentences that serve merely to illustrate her point. Instead, she uses many selections from Scripture and from great English writers which help to instruct the student through their content, style, and structure.

In addition to a helpful format that highlights key definitions, punctuation issues, and important concepts, short historical sidebars tell the fascinating story of the development of English.

She continues the traditional and challenging exercise of sentence diagramming, which trains students to quickly analyze the structure of any given sentence.

The grammatical explanations, the logic of diagrams, and the rhetoric of her examples blend with complementary emphases to create a helpful classical and Christian text.

The Grammar of Spelling: Grade 6

Don't just memorize spelling lists. Learn how to spell.

Many spelling programs overwhelm kids with a lot of spelling rules, which only pile up as the year goes on. This program, developed by veteran Logos teacher Matt Whitling, teaches and reviews five basic spelling rules, as well as more difficult spelling words called stumpers. The lists are cumulative, which allows students to review words throughout the year, and each lesson features dictation sentences that allow even more practice.

Each lesson has the students write the list four times. Students repeat the words, put the words in alphabetical order, write the words from memory, and write them in cursive.

This edition of Grammar of Spelling has the following all-new features:

            • brand-new formatting
            • lesson instructions for the teacher, with tips on how to teach the rule or sound pattern
            • 2 dictation sentences for every lesson
            • 5 extra words taken from the Logos Press homeschool bundle curriculum
            • point assignments for every dictation sentence and for all the tests

The sixth grade Spelling level includes 36 lists. They cover the five spelling rules, geography words, history words, science words, and difficult "stumpers" and "spelling goblins."

            Storybook Latin Year 3

            390 Pictures. Stories. Conversations.
This is how you can teach your kids Latin.

Why shouldn’t kids learn to read Latin the way we learn to read English? Most Latin programs for children are either silly and pointless or soullessly dry.

Instead of struggling through endless charts or busywork activities, Storybook Latin provides simple stories and bright pictures so that kids 3rd grade and up can learn to read and start to answer simple questions in Latin.

And it’s ready to teach right out of the box—no prep required!

The Teacher’s Guide contains the entire Student Workbook answers, plus complete daily lesson plans with matching pagination.

            This package includes:

            The Complete Mowgli Stories

"The man’s cub is mine, Shere Khan—mine to me! He shall not be killed. He shall live to run with the Pack and to hunt with the Pack; and in the end… he shall hunt thee!" ~ Raksha, Mother Wolf

The Law of the Jungle forbids the animals to kill Man, but Shere Khan cannot forget that little Mowgli escaped right from under his blood-soaked muzzle. But there’s more to being a man cub than Mowgli can learn from the Seeonee Wolf Pack—and the lame tiger isn’t the only one eager for him to slip up. Killer Red Dogs, the feckless Monkey People, and unscrupulous members of Mowgli’s true species also wish to claim the Jungle as their own, whether or not Mowgli is in the way.

This all-time-great Canon Classic includes all nine of Kipling's Mowgli stories and their accompanying songs. The Canon Classics series presents the most definitive works of Western literature in a colorful, well-crafted, and affordable way. Unlike many other thrift editions, our classics feature individualized designs that prioritize readability by means of proper margins, leading, characters per line, font, trim size, etc. Each book’s materials and layout combine to make the classics a simple and striking addition to classrooms and homes, ideal for introducing the best of literary culture and human experience to the next generation.
