Pre-Algebra 2 with Economics is the third book in the Life of Fred Pre-Algebra Series (the fifth and last in the "Getting Ready for High School Math" series that includes both Arithmetic & Pre-Algebra books), and is designed for students who have completed the elementary, intermediate, and arithmetic series books. Most students who use this series are in middle school. Providing a fun integration of subjects, this textbook gives students a context that matters in the real world by highlighting the importance of math in understanding economics (and the importance of understanding economics!)

LOOK INSIDE

Thirty-four chapters are included, each of which ends with a "Your Turn to Play" segment with three or four questions. Answers are provided on the next page for students to go over themselves after attempting to solve the problems. "The Bridge" review questions are given after 6-7 chapters, and provide transitions between concepts as well as a means of assessment. For parents who choose to use these sections as evaluation tools, it is recommended that students score at least 90% before moving on. If students don't succeed, they can try again with a total of five different sets of problems. The book concludes with "The Final Bridge" which has 21 questions (with again five tries provided). Answers to the Bridge questions are provided in the back of the book.

Pre-Algebra 2 with Economics covers: Domain and codomain of a function, Conversion factors, Steps in Solving Word Problems, How Not to Bore Your Horse If You Are a Jockey Jockey, One-to-one Functions, Unit Analysis, Key to a Successful Business, Five Qualities that Money Should Have, the Tulip Mania in Holland, Definitions of Capitalism, Socialism, and Communism, Payday Loans, the Tragedy of the Commons, Partnerships, Cardinality of a Set, Four Ways to Kill Competition, Freedom vs. Liberty, Why We Have a High Standard of Living, Tariffs, Demand Curves, Venn Diagrams, Ricardo's Law of Comparative Advantage.

Life of Fred is a unique, complete (not supplemental), math program that uses a highly engaging narrative to teach math without fear and with enjoyment. Students follow the life of Fred Gauss (a math professor who grows up to the age of six), who has many humorous, unlikely, and zany adventures over the course of the curriculum. Math becomes relevant and important because the need for math occurs in Fred's life (and he sees math everywhere). Witty and truly entertaining, these books will engage students in a way unlike any other math program - --while also instilling a solid understanding of the principles of mathematics without an abundance of repetitive drills. This series is perfect for inquisitive students who struggle with the relevance of math, or anyone looking for a creative approach to mathematic thinking!

288 pages, indexed; hardcover, non-consumable textbook with Smyth-sewn binding. Students write their answers on separate paper. Answers are also included in the text and written directly to the student.
