Everyone is so busy giving the classical education to you students that they have forgotten to actually tell you why it matters...

Look Inside the Book

Rebekah Merkle knows which high school classes you like and which you roll your eyes at, which books you enjoy and which you kinda skim. That's because she went through this whole thing called classical education, too: She was a guinea pig in one of the very first classical Christian schools in the country.

Written for students by a (former) student, Classical Me, Classical Thee is lighthearted and—most importantly for you busy homeschoolers—very short. It has a simple goal: to explain why you students are doing what you do in class. (SPOILER: Grades aren't the point—you won't use your knowledge of the Iliad Book 5 every year until you die.)

What you do in class is a drill—and nobody drills for the sake of the drill. You do drills so that you can win the game. The real tragedy, though, would be if you didn't know you were doing drills... or didn't know there was a game at all.
Grades aren't the point. So drill to win.

This new updated edition of the book is specially geared for homeschoolers, and will help all students see the big picture of the crazy things they do all day.

Rebekah Merkle has dabbled in a number of occupations ranging from running her own clothing label to designing fabrics to becoming a full-time high school humanities teacher (which is fitting, because she was a student in one of the founding classical Christian schools in the USA). Rebekah is also the author of the book Eve in Exile, but by far her proudest accomplishment is her crew of five outrageous, hilarious, high-speed teenage children, and her favorite role is that of wife to her similarly outrageous, hilarious, and high-speed husband Ben Merkle.

This should be required reading

This book was excellent. It expertly and concisely explains classical education for the student. I think every homeschooling family should read this, especially those who consider a classical education just one of many options.

Excellent for family discussion!

While it is intended for the student, we used it as a family read aloud and discussed it together. It is well written, my teens loved the humor through out, and we often refer to “the puzzles without the box”. I am sure it won’t solve all the groans over their school work, I do think it gives them a greater appreciation for their classical education.
